FREE FEMALE POWER, ONGOING

In 2023, Free Female Power continued to grow through five collective performance workshops held in different contexts and with very different groups of people.

The year began with a collaboration with Associazione Il Guscio in Roseto degli Abruzzi. It was another opportunity to bring the project into contact with different people and communities and to continue experimenting with the relationship between the cardboard masks and those taking part in the actions.

Then came Collettivo Caciara in Ascoli Piceno and FemFest in Monte Urano. Each encounter brought a different context and new forms of participation, allowing me to continue testing the project and observing how it changes when it comes into contact with different groups.

Later, the project travelled to Helsinki, where I had the opportunity to present Free Female Power at Myymälä2. Bringing the project outside Italy and encountering an international audience was a particularly meaningful experience for me. The context changed, but the project continued to find new ways to encourage participation and conversation.

The final workshop of the year took place at the middle school in Nereto. Working with students was another different experience, allowing me to see how the project could also work with a younger audience.

Since the project began in 2022, more than 300 people have taken part in the workshops and performances, and I have created around 300 cardboard masks. These artistic masks remain the central element of the project: objects that pass from one pair of hands to another and that acquire new meanings through each action.

Over time, the project has also led me to explore the biographies of very different women, from Nina Simone to Rigoberta Menchú. This process has broadened my view of history and led me to question what remains of these experiences in the present and how we continue to shape our perception of women and their place in society.

The workshops and performances are a way of putting these questions into motion. Each encounter changes the project a little, and also changes the way I understand it.

Free Female Power has grown, found new contexts and reached more people, but there are still many things to explore.

And I still have one goal in mind: to bring 1,000 people together for a large collective performance.

Will I manage to do it?

We will see.
