GESTATING A FEMINIST ART FESTIVAL

Creating a feminist art festival has been, for me as an artist, an act of relational creation. It is a living piece built through connections, shared experiences, and reflections. The personal is political, and this project grows from that very root. Every small story, every need to be heard as a woman and as a creator, becomes a thread that weaves the network of this festival. It is not only about showing art, but about building deep connections with the women in our community. About exchanging knowledge and feelings, and also confronting the traumas that are so often silenced.

The festival is a space for reflecting on gender-based violence, for recognising it, naming it, and, above all, fighting it. Through awareness-raising and art, we seek to generate change within the community, to open dialogues that not only make the problem visible, but also offer tools to prevent it.

One of the most powerful experiences of this process has been creating all of this from the ground up, with barely any resources. We rely on the strength of our determination, on the energy of the women who have chosen to participate without expecting financial compensation. To all of them, I dedicate my deepest thanks. Their commitment is undoubtedly an essential part of this festival.

However, I cannot ignore the difficulties we still face in having women’s artistic and cultural work recognised and valued. It is frustrating to see how, despite the progress that has been made, it is still a challenge to have the impact and value of our proposals recognised. But these obstacles will not stop us. Every step forward is a victory, every voice amplified is an act of resistance, and this festival is proof of that.

We have created something big from something small, and this is only the beginning.
