REPRESENTING COLOMBIA
xhibiting at Stills of Peace and Everyday Life has been a particularly meaningful experience for me, not only because of the quality and international reach of the exhibition, but also because of the opportunity to represent Colombia through my artistic practice.
The festival’s twelfth edition, dedicated to Colombia and the concept of Global Future, brought together Colombian and international artists in Abruzzo through an extensive programme of exhibitions, film, literature, and encounters. For me, it was a pleasure to be part of this dialogue and to share the exhibition space with Colombian artists working from very different perspectives and artistic languages.
Taking part in an exhibition of this artistic calibre, in Italy, and doing so in an edition dedicated to my country of origin, created a very particular connection between my personal history and my journey as an artist. Colombia remains present in my gaze even after so many years living in Italy, and being able to bring that relationship into the exhibition space was a deeply meaningful experience for me.
It was also important to encounter other perspectives on Colombia. Not as a single or stereotypical image, but as a complex territory, rich in memory, biodiversity, contradictions, transformations, and possibilities. The concept of Global Future opened precisely this space for reflection: thinking about the future through different geographies, experiences, and sensibilities.
For me, exhibiting alongside Colombian artists as part of this edition was also a way of reconnecting with my own origins from another place. No longer from the distance of someone who has left, but through the possibility of building a bridge between Colombia and Italy through art.
I am deeply grateful to have been part of this edition and of a project that understands art not only as a form of exhibition, but as a tool for creating connections between cultures, territories, and people.
These are some images from my participation in Stills of Peace and Everyday Life – Edizione XII, Global Future.
